The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) (originally known as Institut Jawaharlal de formation et de recherche médicales postdoctorales) is a medical school located in Pondicherry, India. JIPMER is an Institute of National Importance (INI) and a tertiary care referral hospital. It is under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Indian Government, with autonomy to run its internal administration. JIPMER currently has over 300 faculty members, over 700 resident physicians and over 800 nursing, administrative, and support staff. It admits 249 undergraduate students and 200 postgraduate students annually. 

The campus contains the medical college, the old and new hospital blocks, student and resident hostels, staff quarters, a Kendriya Vidyalaya, a branch each of two nationalized banks, two ATM’s, a post office, a temple, the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam JIPMER Auditorium playgrounds and sporting fields.

JIPMER offers a variety of courses. Undergraduate courses include MBBS, B.Sc. (Medical Laboratory Technology), B.Sc. (Allied Medical Sciences – Cardiac Lab Technology / Dialysis / Neuro / OT), BMRSc (Bachelor of Medical Record Science). B.Sc. (Nursing) was started in 2006. Postgraduate courses include MDS,MD, MS, and diploma in many specialties, M.Sc. in nursing, Medical Biochemistry and Medical Physiology and PhD in several subjects. Super-specialty courses include MCh in Surgical Oncology, Cardiothoracic & vascular surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Plastic surgery, Paediatric surgery, Surgical gastroenterology and DM in Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Neonatology, Clinical pharmacology, Clinical immunology and Endocrinology. In January 2014 JIPMER started master’s in public health(MPH) course, Emergency Medical Technician course MRO and MRT.

1. Does JIPMER offer scholarships?

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry offers scholarships to eligible candidates. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER): Admission Process and Important Dates

M.B.B.S, B.Sc and BASLP are the main JIPMER courses that are offered at the UG level. For admission in these programmes, one has to:

MBBS:

  • Apply and appear for NEET UG which is conducted by the National Testing Agency run by the Government of India.
  • If the interested candidates meet the JIPMER cut-off after the results are announced, they will be called for a counseling process.
  • Once their seat allocation has been done, the selected candidates will be called for document verification.
  • The last step would be to pay the fee for the preferred course. 

 

B.Sc and BASLP:

  • Fill the application form and appear for the common entrance exam which is conducted by the institute itself. 
  • Interested candidates have to secure a minimum 50 percentile in order to crack the entrance exam.
  • A merit list will be prepared for the selected candidates.
  • Shortlisted candidates will undergo a counseling process and fill-in their preferences, seats will be allocated accordingly. 
  • The last step would be to pay the fee for the preferred course. 

JIPMER Pondicherry PG Admissions:

Courses like M.Sc, M.P.H, P.B.D, P.G.D, P.G.F, M.D, M.S, D.M, M.Ch and MDS are offered in the institute at PG level. For admission in  MD/MS/D.M/M.Ch., candidates will have to appear for INI CET. For the remaining courses, students will have to sit for an independent entrance examination conducted by the institute. 

JIPMER Admission MD/MS/D.M/M.Ch:

  • Interested candidates will have to appear for INI CET conducted by AIIMS Delhi. 
  • A merit list will be released shortly after that. 
  • After the cut-off requirement, shortlisted candidates will be called for the counseling process where they will be allocated a seat. 
  • The last step would be the document verification and the payment of the fee. 

JIPMER Admission M.Sc/M.P.H./P.B.D/P.G.D/P.G.F:

  • Interested candidates will have to register themselves and fill the JIPMER Puducherry application form. 
  • Next, registered candidates will appear for a computer based entrance exam. 
  • Candidates having secured 50 percentile will be a part of the merit list that would be released
  • These candidates will have to further participate in the counseling process
  • Once the candidate is selected, they will have to verify their documents and pay the required admission fee.

1. What is the admission process to PhD programs?

Admission processes to the Ph.D. Programs will be made annually during July sessions. Call for applications will be announced in the month of May every year and all major newspapers in India will carry the announcement. Online registration of applications will be made on JIPMER website  Entrance examination will be held during the 3rd Sunday of every June. Commencement of course on 1st July. Close of the admission is 31st July. Admission will be made as per Merit Rank.The minimum and maximum age limit for UG courses at NIMHANS is 17 and 25 years respectively, with a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/PwBD candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates.
