The Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, India was founded in 1900 as a one-room clinic by Dr. Ida S. Scudder. Today, CMC is a renowned medical institution that cares for over two million patients and trains thousands of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals each year. CMC conducts the region’s most advanced medical research, training, and health programs. In 1942, the medical school was raised to the status of a college and 25 students were admitted to the MBBS course. CMC offers a range of different medical specialties, with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, alongside primary and secondary level care for local communities. CMC has nearly 2,000 doctors and 3,000 nurses on staff, many of whom also have teaching and research responsibilities. The main campus is at Vellore and the other campus is at Bagayam city which is 7km away from the main campus. The institute offers admission to UG, PG, Doctoral, Diploma and Fellowship courses in the fields of Medicine, Allied Health Sciences, Nursing and Hospital Management.

CMC is home to 106 wards, including 11 intensive care units and six high dependency units. More than 75 percent of its hospital beds are in general wards and are subsidized to reduce the financial burden on patients. CMC has nearly 40 major operation theaters and 14 facilities for minor procedures. An average of 185 operations are carried out each day. The medical school is ranked among the top medical colleges in India and offers an extensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher-speciality courses in medicine, nursing, allied health sciences, and related disciplines.
