AIIMS was created in 1956 to serve as a nucleus for nurturing excellence in all aspects of health care. All-India Institute of Medical Sciences was established as an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament with the objects of developing patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of Medical Education in India; to bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity; and to attain self-sufficiency in Post-graduate Medical Education.

The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient care. As provided in the Act, AIIMS conducts teaching programs in medical and para-medical courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and awards its own degrees. Teaching and research are conducted in 42 disciplines. In the field of medical research AIIMS is the lead, having more than 600 research publications by its faculty and researchers in a year. AIIMS also runs a College of Nursing and trains students for B.Sc.(Hons.) Nursing post-certificate) degrees.

Twenty-five clinical departments including four super specialty centers manage practically all types of disease conditions with support from pre- and Para-clinical departments. However, burn cases, dog-bite cases and patients suffering from infectious diseases are not entertained in the AIIMS Hospital. AIIMS also manages a 60-bed hospital in the Comprehensive Rural Health Centre at Ballabgarh in Haryana and provides health cover to about 2.5 lakh population through the Centre for Community Medicine. AIIMS offers courses in Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in medical and related physical biological sciences. It also offers Nursing and dental education. It incorporates innovations in education and producing medical teachers for the country. It is constantly involved in research in medical and related sciences. At present, 125 Indian students are admitted every year to the MBBS course (51 General category, 34 Other Backward Classes, 12 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category, 19 Scheduled Caste and 9 Scheduled Tribe). For persons with disabilities (PWD), 5% reservation was provided on a horizontal basis. Seven foreign national students are also admitted each year. Beginning 2020, these admissions are made based on merit through the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency.

The degrees and diplomas awarded by the institute under the All India institute of Medical Sciences Act are recognized medical qualifications for the purpose of the Indian Medical Council Act, are deemed to be included in the first schedule of that act entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from other universities of India.

All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, New Delhi: Admission Process and Important Dates

Each year 50 seats are available for admission to the graduate medical course, leading to the award of the degree of M.B.B.S. of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Out of these, 7 (seven) seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes, 4 (four) seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes and 5 (five) seats are reserved for the Foreign Nationals nominated by the Government of India. The general candidates fill the remaining 34(thirty four) seats on the basis of a competitive examination.  If requisite number of suitable candidates are not available to fill the seats reserved for the Scheduled Castes, the same are filled out of the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes and vice versa. In case suitable candidates are not available from the above two reserved categories, the vacant seats are filled by the candidates from the general category.

    

An applicant is eligible for admission to the competitive Entrance Examination of the Institute if the following criteria are met with:-

 

Nationality: He/She is an Indian citizen
Age: He/She has attained or will attain the age of seventeen (17) years as
on the 31st of December of the year of admission. Candidates attaining seventeen   years on 1st January 2001 or later will not be eligible to appear at  the   competitive entrance examination.
Essential
Qualification:  
He/She should have passed the12th Class under the 10+2 Scheme /Senior SchoolCertificate Examination or  an equivalent examination of a recognized Board of  any Indian State with ENGLISH and Medical Group of  subjects, namely   PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY (Organic and Inorganic) and BIOLOGY  (Botany and  Zoology) :

The Intermediate Science (I.Sc.) or an equivalent examination of a recognized Indian university or a  recognized Board of Education of any Indian State with ENGLISH and the Medical Group of Subjects,  namely PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY (Organic and Inorganic) and BIOLOGY (Botany and Zoology):

He/She should have obtained a minimum of SIXTY PERCENT (60%) marks in aggregate in the 4   compulsory subjects of ENGLISH, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY (Organic and Inorganic) and BIOLOGY (Botany and Zoology).

 

For Graduate Application:
Minimum Aggregate percentage marks and other conditions:
If an application has passed the B.Sc. or B.V.Sc. or B.Sc. (Nursing) final examination by securing not less than fifty five percent(55%) of the total marks in aggregate in any of these examinations, he/she shall be eligible for appearing in the Competitive Entrance Examination provided in the 12th class examination under 10+2 scheme/ Intermediate Science/Pre-Medical or Pre-Professional /B.Sc. 1st year examination of three years course or an equivalent examination, he/she had studied the subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry (Organic and Inorganic) and Biology (Botany and Zoology), even if he/she has secured less than 60% marks in the subjects specified above.

The pattern for the NEET (UG)-2022 Examination for admission in the Session 2022-23 is as follows:

The important points to note:

  • Each question carries 04 (four) marks and, for each correct answer candidate will get 04 (four) marks. II. For each incorrect answer, 01(one) mark will be deducted from the total score.
  • To answer a question, the candidate has to find, for each question, the correct answer/ best option.
  • However, after the process of the challenge of key, if more than one option is found to be correct then all/any one of the multiple correct/best options marked will be given four marks (+4). · Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1). · Unanswered/Unattempted questions will be given no marks. In case, a question is dropped/ ignored, all candidates will be given four marks (+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.
