Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the 23 IITs created to be Centres of Excellence for training, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India.
Established as the College of Engineering in 1961, the Institute was later declared as an Institution of National Importance under the “Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963” and was renamed as “Indian Institute of Technology Delhi”. It was then accorded the status of a Deemed University with powers to decide its own academic policy, to conduct its own examinations, and to award its own degrees. The Institute was declared as an “Institute of Eminence” by the Government of India in 2018. At a rank of 172 globally, IIT Delhi was Number 1 in India in 2017 and Number 3 in 2018. It now targets to better its ranking to reach within 100 in the next five years and gradually to less than 50 in due course.
Since its inception, over 60000 have graduated from IIT Delhi in various disciplines including Engineering, Physical Sciences, Management and Humanities & Social Sciences. Of these, nearly 5070 received Ph.D. degrees. The number of students who graduated with B.Tech. degree is over 15738. The rest obtained Master’s Degree in Engineering, Sciences and Business Administration. These alumni today work as scientists, technologists, business managers and entrepreneurs. There are several alumni who have moved away from their original disciplines and have taken to administrative services, active politics or are with NGOs. In doing so, they have contributed significantly to building of this nation, and to industrialization around the world. 1. Whether, there is any provision for payment of fees through loan facility available from institute’s end?
The Institute does not have a loan facility. The candidate can approach any nationalized bank to avail educational loan.
2. What is CGPA and SGPA?
SGPA is the Semester Grade Point Average. Points secured in a semester =Σ (Course credits × Grade point for all courses in which pass grade has been obtained), SGPA = Points secured in the semester/Credits registered in the semester(excluding non-graded courses), CGPA is the Cumulative Grade Point Average and your CGPA is calculated from your SGPA of the semesters completed till date
Admission to all Undergraduate Programmes are made through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Main and Advanced) for B.Tech. (for further information, please visit JEE website and Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) for B.Des. (for further information, please visit UCEED website. Visiting Studentship A student, who is registered for an Engineering /Technology degree in a recognized Institute /University in India or abroad, is eligible for being considered as a visiting student at IIT Delhi, for a maximum period of 6 months/ one semester. More details can be obtained from the Academic Section of the Institute. Summer Research Fellowship In order to expose students from other Engineering Colleges/Institutes to the ongoing research activities at IIT Delhi, Institute has introduced Summer Research Fellowship programme for undergraduate students from other engineering Institutes. IIT Delhi will offer fellowship or interns can also be supported from budget of sponsored / consultancy projects, through an outside fellowship (eg. KVPY, INSA, INAE, etc.) or institutional MoUs. Admission of UG students to PG programmes with advance standing UG students of IIT Delhi with advance standing are eligible for admission to PG programmes at IIT Delhi. Yes, you are eligible to apply. But you have to upload an undertaking stating that “You will provide the required document at the time of test/interview/registration if shortlisted/selected at IIT Delhi”.

Further, 260 PPOs and 30 international offers were received during IIT Delhi placements 2023. The international offers were received from around 15 international companies over 20 job profiles across countries like the UK, United States, Singapore, Japan and Netherlands. Apart from this, 500 companies registered during IIT Delhi placements 2023. 50 students have also received domestic offers with package more than INR 1 crore per annum during IIT Delhi placements 2023. Apart from this, the highest international package offered during IIT Delhi phase 1 placements 2023 stood at INR 2.4 crore per annum.
