Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a public university located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established in 1875 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, and it became a university in 1920. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in various fields, including engineering.
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology at AMU offers a 5-year degree course in B.Arch and an evening degree course in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering to diploma holders. The Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET) is a constituent college of AMU that was established in 1935. It has a land area of 113 acres and a built-up area of 22960 sq.m. ZHCET has 11 departments of studies, and the Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical departments offer undergraduate courses in engineering.
AMU offers a four-year full-time BTech course at the undergraduate level across ten specializations, including Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and others. The eligibility criteria for admission to the BTech course is a minimum of 50% marks in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. The admission process for the BTech course includes an entrance exam, which is conducted by the university, followed by counseling.
In addition to the BTech course, AMU also offers a Diploma in Computer Engineering and a B.Voc. in Polymer and Coating Technology. The fees for the engineering courses at AMU vary depending on the course and the category of the student. For example, the fees for the BTech course for the academic year 2023-24 range from INR 20,000 to INR 1,20,000 per annum, depending on the specialization and the category of the student.
